Shaykh Talal al-Azem Shaykh Talal al-Azem was born and raised in the USA and graduated from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor where he studied History and Near Eastern Studies. Thereafter, he studied full-time the classical disciplines of Islamic learning in Syria. For ten years, he was under the tutelage of prominent scholars including Mufti Shaykh Adeeb Al-Kallas, Shaykh Khalid Al-Kharsa and Shaykh Mahmoud Al Misri. His interests include law, ethics and the disciplines of the classical Muslim education. He completed his MA & Phd at the Oxford University and is an Arabic & Islamic History lecturer at the same institute. He has edited many works and authored a work of his own entitled "Prayer of occasions", a book describing optional prayers that can be offered for related circumstances He is the director of Oxford Traditional Knowledge Foundation, an institute dedicated to offering traditional knowledge of Islam and ways of living.
